1. The best assignment of the year was the summer travel project because it let us use our creativity and choose where we wanted to go.
2. The worst assignment of the year was the Inca , Maya, and Aztec project because i really had no idea what i was doing and i didn’t have enough time to finish.
3. If I could create an assignment it would be to come up with their dream job and why they like that job.
4. I’m really happy that i learned to multiply because before 5th grade i was really bad at multiplying.
5. Words of wisdom: Sing up for after school activities like science club, ice skating, or bible study but whatever you choose it really helps you learn better in school like math or ela.
6. Words of warning: obey substitutes because if you don’t it will come back and bite you because they might come back and you have no freedom because you didn’t behave last time.

dear mrs, larke i had fun time and this year i didn’t expect to go by so quickly and you as my math teacher rocked. But i hated mcas and i hate the review for the test and sometimes do the redo and explain. The thing i hated loved the most was the warm up because it was easy at sometimes and i got it done sometimes most likely. All i wanted to say is i had fun and might see you next year.

1: The best assignment this year was when we
had our imaginary pop quiz, but it was filled
with questions like color a circle in orange and
green. It was awesome.
2:The wosrt assignment was when we made our own
flash cards , it was a big mess when we were done.
3:The assignment i would have the class do is go to
a huge math museum , everybody would have so much
fun.
4:My favorite thing i learned this year is a stem and leaf plot
5:My words of wisdom is BE NICE BE HAPPY AND LEARN LOTS
6:My words of warning are same as always RUN AWAY FROM MCAS

Dear new 5th graders,
I’m just letting you know about new things about grade 5. my favorite assignment was a pop quiz. you were supposed to read all the directions before you start , but no one did. they were nonsense questions. number 20 said something like ignore all questions except 20. I was like omg! my teacher said it was an activity about following directions. the worst assignment was redo and explain. we just did a test and we had to redo all the questions that we got wrong! talk about harsh. if I could create any assignment it would be using explosives. words of wisdom for future 5th graders is do your homework. you’ll stay in for recess. word of warning is we have to do 4 mcas tests the hardest year for mcas ever!
Posted in Kid's view | No Comments »
1.) The best assignment of the year is at the begining or the year when we had to do alot or things I would do with my right hand with my left hand. The lefties lucked out.
2.)The worst assignment of the year was anything that had to do with simplest form.I was probly one of the only people that had to get help
3.)If I could creat an assignment it would be to be forced to go to the biggest amusment park in the WORLD!!! It would stink to have motion sickness
4.)The best thing Mrs. Larke has ever tought me is to get out of a speeding ticket. You can wait and learn your self how.I wish she tought us how to get out of a parking ticket.
5.)Mrs Larke is’nt that bad. She uselly thinks the things you do can be funny if you get on her good side. I was in the middle and she still liked me.
6.)FRACTIONS!!!! They are’nt that bad now but you would be surprised how hard fractions are.

My Relections on 5th Grade.
1. the best assignment of the yr. was the stem and leaf plot paper because it was the easiest.
2. the worst assignment was unit rates because it was hard and boring.
3. if i could create an assignment for math class it would be all easy and simple addition.
4. one thing i am happy to have learned in this class was new games and stuff.
5. words of wisdom for next years class DON’T GET ON HER BAD or you’ll be sorry.
6. words of warning for next years class she may seem nice but stay on her good side!

1. The best assignment of the year was when we had to do all these activities with our opposite hand. This was the best because it was a challenging and fun assignment.
2. The worst assignment was when we had to do a paper on tessellations. It was hard and I didn’t think it was necessary.
3. To make up a math activity, I would take math words and put them in a shoe box. Each student would take one and make up a paragraph explaining how to use it and use examples to support it.
4. I learned asymmetry does not mean one line of symmetry.
5. Mrs. Larke might teach you cribbage. It is a really fun game, but hard to learn so, I advise you to listen to her.
6. Mrs. Larke loses her nice side very easily, so watch yourself and don’t get on her last nerve.

1. The best assignment of the year was, when we did the maya inca and aztec project beacuse, you got to make a poster, a brochure or a report.
2. The worst assignment of the year was, when we had to read sections about paul revere (etc) and find words in the selections and answer questions.
3. If i could create an assignment it would be…a game were you had a bunch of multipulcation facts on a charts-100, and you would have to answer as much as you can in a minute.
4. One thing that i am happy about that i learned is, the mean, meadian, mode, and teh range.
5. Words of wisdom for next years students is, be sure to always pay attention to what she is teaching so you don’t get all confused on what to do.

Finish the classwork (R & P 8-4)
Using the LCD to add and subtract fractions
1/4 + 2/5 =
1.) What is the LCD? (Multiples of 4: 4, 8,12,16,20,24. Multiples of 5: 5,10,15,20. Common multiples: 20. LCD: 20) 20
2.) Make equivalent fractions using the LCD as the denominator.
1/4 = ?/20 (5/20)
2/5 = ?/20 (8/20)
3.) Use the new, equivalent fractions to solve the original problem.
5/20 + 8/20 = (add the numerator, keep the same denominator). 13/20
4.) Simplify if necessary.

Least common denominator (LCD)
This is the same concept as Least common multiple (LCM). You count up from the numbers you are trying to find the LCM or LCD for. Go a few multiples at a time for each number, or count up to the product of those two numbers. Circle multiples the two have in common (common multiples). The LCD or LCM is the least of the common multiples. This number will be a common denominator if you are adding or subtracting fractions with these denominators.
Example:
Find the LCM of 4 and 6.
Multiples of each:
4: 4,8,12,16,20,24
6: 6,12,18,24
Common multiples: 12,24
Least common multiple: 12 (because 12 is less than 24)
For LCD, just look at the denominators (bottom numbers):
LCD of 1/9 and 5/6?
You just need the LCM of 9 and 6!
9: 9,18,27,36
6: 6,12,18,24,30
Common multiple: 18
The LCD of 1/9 and 5/6 is 18.

Vacation is over and we are starting to move into the final stretch of this school year!
Starting it off will be a two-week math review to prepare for the MCAS tests in May. We will be learning new concepts (adding, subtracting, and even some multiplying fractions), reviewing old skills, and practicing how to write open response answers for the test. Nightly homework will focus on the old skills (make sure your book is at home!), and classwork will give students a quick chance to practice the new skills plus test-taking strategies. All three parts of this practice are important for doing well in May, so please make sure the homework gets done!
Today, Monday, we will focus on adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and review adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals for homework. (Pages to follow; most of this unit’s homework will be done in the textbook.)

I stepped on the steps, and held on to the pole. All of a sudden the engine started.I jerked back into Crystal. Suddenly i found myself screaming “FINAL DESTINATION 3″, remembering the movie. I stood there looking at the sign that said our stop, ours was park street. suddenly the sign switched to the one word i hated the most at this moment “DESTINATION”. I quikly shut my eyes. Soon enough the subway curved to a stop. I got off my teacher asked if i was ok, i said yes untill she told me we would be going on another HORROR SUBWAY RIDE

My trip to boston was good. the only thing that was tyreing and boring was just walking all over everywhere. i liked going to quincy market with all the stores. we went into urban outfitters and american eagle, it was so much fun. the only thing that was really loud and scary was the lightning show. when we went to quincy market we went in almost all of the confession stands. i was almost so close to getting this cherry purse but i didn’ t have alot of money and the purse was like 37.00 dollars. it was crazy so i went to a different confession stand and they had a different purse that i liked and it was only 25.00 dollars. i had enough money for that. well gotta go. holly

In Boston I saw the State House and in one of the desks in the meeting room there were Twizlers. The subway was awesome beacause we kept falling into the seats, except me. There was a pirate show in the Science Museum, and a girl that the the pirates named, Clorox. During the show the boys yelled “Go Clorox.” The buildings were monsterous. The planaterim in the Museum was awesome because the ceiling was moving and there was very weird music playing to the show. Most of the girls in our class would not go to sleep until 5:30 a.m, that was including me. My friend Sam m. woke up with all the girls and said ” I felt left out so I woke up”. He also would not touch the pole in the subway because he said if he had supervision he would see the germs on it. We went home on the second day in Boston and we were exsasted [exhausted]. Over all the trip was fantastic, and I had a great time.

I loved the boston trip I had so much fun. my favret part was when i saw pual rovers [Paul Revere's] graav.I also had a lot of fun plaing in the buston musam of sciens wher the play ground is, and it was aspeshole [especially] fun sleeping over. Lits go out at 12 00 and get you up at 6 45. it was a lot of fun.

As my chaperone, Josh and I were walking to Paul Rever’s house we saw a statue of Saint Rom. He was wearing a robe and a cornet. A sparrow on his right shoulder and one beside his left foot. He was in a motioning position with his hand outstretched. The beautiful statue was made of granite. The gold/copper colored plaque under his stand said he was a Monk who tried to make British Christians. It is said he died by not following the monk ways. The statue was near the garden of truth on top of a giant staircase. I just thought it was an intriguing statue.

My class had a field trip to Boston, MA. My mom drove my friends Kevin, Ryan, Ryan’s mom Kristi, and me! We first arrived at the Boston Museum of Science parking lot. After that, we took the T(subway). We took it to the Boston Common, where we walked on the freedom trail to Granary Burial ground, where we saw the gravestones of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, Ben Franklin’s parents. Then we ate lunch at Quincy Market/Fanuel Hall. After that, we went to the New England Aquarium, and saw a 3-D, deep sea movie. Then we went to the museum, and looked arouned inside at the exibets, for about two and a half hours. Then we went to bed. But, me, Kevin, Ryan, Zack, Sam, and Zeb stayed up till about 2:30 a.m. telling scary stories. We woke up at 6:45 a.m. At 8:00 a.m, we saw a planetarium show. After that, we saw a omni movie, where the screen goes around you. Then we went home. My field trip was AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First in Boston you’ll see (funny enough) that the Freedom trail is really a ten inch red line on the sidewalks and streets, you won’t be lost. Don’t look straght at the red line look at some of the views and buildings take some pictures, but don’t get caught up.Don’t over do the shoping, I mean don’t buy any useless things. At Quincy Market I recommened any Asian food takes the cake. Now last The Old South Meeting House is still very old, don’t mess with it. Have a nice time in Boston, bye.

I went on a field trip to Boston with my 5th grade class. Jake and Ryan in the car ride to Boston.Afer that we took the subway to Park street. Then we walked on the freedom trail. I took pictures on my disposeable camera. On the freedom trail we got to look at grave stones of Paul Revere. Then we ate lunch at Quincey Market. I had nachos. Then I bought a Boston Celtics hat and a Boston sweatshirt.
After that we went back to the car to get our sleeping bag and brought it to the museum to put them down. Then we went inside the museum to look around at all the three floors of the museum. There was a lot of awesome stuff.
We also went to a 3-D imax movie called Deap Sea. The imax screen can fit 4,500 regular TV screens.
At midnight was lightes out.
The next day we saw an Omni movie called Sea Monsters.
Then we got our sleeping bags and got in the car and went home.
But on the way home my group stoped for lunch at Wendy’s!
The trip was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad and I were thinking about going to the animal presentation. We peeked over the wall while everybody ran towards the owl. We thought that was just a little too boring and don’t get me wrong, I love animals, but they were saying boring facts about them, so my dad and I decided to sneak by everyone and tour the whole museum and visit the exhibits I haven’t seen yet. No one was there so I got to run up the escalator that was going down. It took me a while but I eventually made it up. We went to the lightning exhibit but being there by my self creeped me out so we didn’t spend too much time there but before we knew it it was time for bed.

The planeterium was awsome because it was dark, fun and lots of stars. We learned about the stars, moon, sun and planets. In the center of all the seats there was a big machine. The machine did all the affects with the walls. But I couldn’t believe it because I had been to it before with my mom.The lady also showed us how the planets may look like stars but there not, and she showed us how the stars connect to make leo the lion and oryans belt also the bear much more stuff that was awsome. So yeah this was in boston massachusetts so you must know where this is the boston museum! Its was a awsome fieldtrip.
!!!!The End!!!!

Boston was realy fun. One time our subway locked off and we had to get off! So then we had to walk about 2 miles! One of my favorite parts was when we went to starbucks coffee and saw a guy swearing at a police man and he hit him!… He got arrested… but they also had two gigantic swings at the science museum, playground! And we all tried to lift a 5,000 pound sack. The live animal exhibit was kind of a rip off, they had 2 snakes, 1 bunny,1 prerry dog a duck, a frog, and a toad. after that we went for dinner at the cafe, and the food was REALY good! We ate french fries and cookies and chips! It was good.We went to 2 I max movies and the one that was at the aquareum, when we got there there were lion seals and they were so CUTE!:) On our way home from boston we stopped at wendys, and we saw 4 of the groups there: Zeb, zach, ryan, jake, kyle, kelli, maggie, heather, lily, ms. marchefka, cassidy, alexH, alexG, kevin, pam, jake’s mom, kyle’s mom, and ryan’s mom. But not ms larke
I tripped and fell so now i’m realy hurt, i sprained my ankle………:(# OWWWWWWWW. I had a realy fun time! my mom thought that we were being rushed (TRUE STATEMENT!) i did too, but we can always go back!
… THE END…

It all came down to this, the form of transportation that haunted me the most, THE SUBWAY. Waiting for the subway to stop, I step in. Not many people were on it, but enough to get squished. I sit crowded next to Sam, and Scott just had to join in. We were moving slowly at first, we went faster. I was whimpering holding on to the pole, it wasn’t any better. Angel jerked right torward me. The turns were hazy and nothing but a blur. All the imperfections on the subway were all in slowmotion, to make it even more permanent in my head. When the subway stopped, I slowly leaned forward, got off, and was thankfully okay.

I touched a Jellyfish plus whales, dolphins and much more but not for real it was at the imax 3-d show. It felt real though! I saw the Frogpond park. (I tried not to hurt little kids by accident) but it was awesome. I went to the planetariem show. We were spinning while watching and learning about stars.
Posted in Kid's view | No Comments »
The subway was fun because every one was touching the gross poles but me, I would not touch it. I wasn’t going to grab that disgusting pole just so I wouldn’t fall. I can stand on my own. I saw the germs. no I didn’t, but if I had super vision I would have. I know its dirty, slimy and any other word with the definition of gross. So take my word never ever touch the subway pole or you definitely will get a slight cold.

At first, i didn’t think it would be good, but then i found out a lot of my friends were in that class! Another good thing about being in that class is that the teacher is really nice. The last good thing about being in that class is that we actually had gym and wood shop at the end of the day not in the beginning, so it was alot of fun. Ok, thats all the time i have! Thats all folks!

It was about 1:30pm. On our field trip to Boston. We were on our way to Starbucks and we saw a guy in a truck yelling swears in a police officer’s face. The police officer was asking him to show him his drivers licence and get out of the car, he was just sitting in his car in the middle of the street. While i was waiting for my starbucks’ Frappuccino, Kyra was taping the guy with her video camera. He started shouting SO loud we could hear him from the inside of Starbucks. Than all of the sudden about 50 police cruisers went by. Next we saw him getting arrested and being put in a police car. Some trip to starbucks!!!!!!!!
